Collection of Biometric Identifiers in Illinois

We are investigating companies that collect biometric information from their employees or customers in Illinois. These companies collect biometric information if they secure computers or locked doors by requiring you to scan your fingerprint(s) or your iris or retina (part of your eye) or if the company uses facial or voice recognition as a means of gaining access to locations, information, equipment, etc. If your Illinois employer, or a company you do business with in Illinois, collects your "biometric identifier", which includes a retina or iris scan, fingerprint, voiceprint, or scan of hand or face geometry, we would be interested in speaking with you.

The State of Illinois has passed legislation protecting your privacy and ensuring that the biometric information collected is not used for improper purposes. This law, known as the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act, 740 ILCS 14/1 et seq. ("BIPA"), provides you certain protections and rights related your personal, biometric identifiers.
